Five years have passed since the collapse of civilization. The dead still walk the land, but humanity has proved itself strong and resilient. Large settlements have begun to trade, manufacture, and rebuild what was lost.
Kell McDonald and his friends continue to work in isolation. On the verge of a breakthrough in their research for a cure, secrecy has never been more vital. Their small community, composed of people who have lost more than most, exists for the sole purpose of providing a safe space for the creation the cure to end the zombie plague forever.
When soldiers in black appear, those carefully laid plans are burned to ash.
Forced to fight, to run, Kell and his companions are in a desperate race for the security and resources they need to finally bring salvation to a world at the mercy of the hungry dead.

As an unabashed Joshua Guess fan, I'll admit to being predisposed to liking his fiction. But his writing keeps getting better and better, his characters keep growing and developing their distinct personalities with the quirks and flaws that make them real. This fifth book in The Fall series is great. I just read it on my spring break after re-reading the previous four volumes. At first it was just about Kell surviving. Then he begins to think he just might be able to stop the plague. But he needs other people to do that. Kell forms deep friendships. Some are sustained, some are shattered. Through each succeeding book we get close to the cure, but nothing is easy living with the dead. And things are even harder living with the living. If you think the collapse of life as we know it brings out the best in humans you haven't been paying attention.Reading all five in a row over the last few days has given me an appreciation for how Guess has developed as a writer. It's a zombie apocalypse plus bad guys, so the reader knows stuff will hit the fan, but Guess is able to create suspense and believable tension in that our protagonists, who also know stuff is going to hit the fan, have to maintain a state of readiness as they, and we, wonder what's around the corner.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Joshua Guess' zombie world fiction of Living with the Dead and The Fall are far more compelling than anything on TV or in the movies.

Exodus in Black The Fall Book 5 eBook Joshua Guess Reviews
I have read each book of Kell. This one truly speaks to the survival of people beyond just getting by. I love how the characters continue to support each other for the greater good!
I am a Zombie fan and this book grabs you. THEY think they have found the CURE . And others will kill to keep it from mankind. Who will win ? Running out to find the next in series. Yes I RECOMMEND! Enjoy !
So much happens in this installment of the series, is hard to believe is just one book. Some really great changes happen in our group. But they suffer some real hard times too. Some bad mistakes happen that really causes some major damage. This story just won't let me go.
I really love this series. Can't read the stories fast enough. Whenever I finish a book I can't wait to start the next. Joshua Guess is am amazing writer. My mind completely submerges into the world he's invented. I feel like I'm on this journey with Kell. Like a movie in my head. I can't wait to start the next book.
Edge of your seat action. I read this in two long sitting. It was amazing.
I look back to the beginnings of Haven and this rich worlds huge tapestry and am just in awe.
Being a fan from the blog days and seeing how far "we've" come is just outstanding.
This is another shining gem in the wonderfully vivid nail biting The Fall series.
I enjoyed this so very much. I feel as though I know intimately each main character and experience their joy, pain, victory and loss.
Just wonderful.
Following the characters I have come to know so well it is almost like I really do know them. To see some of them fall, to see others rise from the ashes. To meet new friends and learn to really dislike new/old enemy's.
I wanted to read this book even faster than I usually read, and I read very fast. But I also wanted to read it slower, I did not want to have to say good bye.
I have enjoyed every one of Joshua's books, some more than others. This book has become my favorite. I have had it sitting here waiting to read since it came out. I'm glad I waited. I read it way too fast.
I haven't found a better writer in the zombie genre after some 500 plus books. The story of Kel , Big K from the Living with the dead series, continues on with the originality that it only seems Joshua Guess can provide. From the ambush of their compound to daring drive back to Haven, it does not disappoint. This is a stand alone book series but if you haven't read the Living with the dead series i encourage you to do so as it fills in some spaces in Kel's life and gives some more details about the people of the Iowa compound who chose to live there with him.
